Deborah Smith Parker

(A New Look at the Language of Astrology) by Deborah Smith Parker

Present day astrology has been impacted by modern psychology in many positive ways. Clinical objectification can be helpful but it can also cause the unwitting astrologer (or therapist) to describe deep human experiences as something you’d only pick up with tweezer
Looking at Mars and Venus: How often do we describe Venus as the planet that indicates our “values,” “what we attract,” or “affections,” and Mars as “energy” and “force” and “how we go after what we want.” Those are accurate to a point but they don’t begin to touch the deep primal levels at which these planetary forces operate, and they certainly don’t describe what happens when we are caught in their currents and being tumbled all over the place by them. How differently we look at these two planets/gods through the stories of their mythic origins that remind us that their relationship was outside the bounds of marriage, meaning they are outside what is considered conventional or acceptable.
Astrology is a symbolic language that expresses powerful archetypal forces. When these forces are in operation standard prose language is limited in its ability to describe and touch those deep places such energies demand contact with.
Deborah Smith Parker will throw away the tweezers and use a language of images to connect us to planetary archetypal and mythic sources, using some excerpts from her newly published book, Humanus Astrologicus, and encourage those in the audience to tap into the images that reveal their own stories.
